My own training journey started when I adopted my German Shepherd Dog, Gizmo. I quickly discovered that he was nervous around other dogs and people, and this presented itself as reactivity and aggression.
Understanding that Gizmo had a poor start to his life, I started attending obedience classes and training designed for reactive dogs to try and improve some of his behaviours, and help his confidence. I had to learn quickly, making some mistakes as we all do, but ensuring I learnt how to help him and modify his reactive behaviour.
This training with Gizmo sparked a strong desire to help others over come the challenges they face with their dogs.
As such I have now completed a foundation degree in Applied Canine Training and Behaviour and a BSc in Canine Behaviour Management, both demonstrating my theoretical knowledge of canine training and behaviour, as well as practical coaching and training skills, with my BSc specifically focusing on improving problematic canine behaviours.
Further to my degrees, I have qualifications from the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers (BIPDT) and the Agility Club, and I attend regular seminars and workshops.
I have experience teaching classes for puppies, adult beginner and advanced, as well as coaching owners and their dogs for the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme. I have worked in the emergency services since 2005, where I also hold teaching and assessment qualifications.
Due to the benefits I have experienced myself working one-to-one with Gizmo, I have chosen to provide coaching sessions in one-to-one or small group formats, with additional workshops and short courses throughout the year.
My training style focuses on a reward-based system that enables you to communicate your needs with your dog, in turn giving your dog the best possible chance of understanding, and therefore achieving your goals. Not only can this training approach generate long-lasting results, it also ensures both you and your dog are happy participants in any coaching we do together.
I look forward to working with you and your brilliant dogs.
